Artist Statement
The process of painting is, for me, humbling and mysterious, an intuitive exploration into wordless emotional states. I scribble and splatter, paint over, erase, add new layers, trying but not always succeeding to keep my approach fresh and enlivened. Out of this strenuous yet playful process, something begins to emerge—I never know what it will be when I start.
Thematically, I am energized by the natural world, by travels, poetry, music, work of other artists, daily events—but most of all by the process itself. Each painting is a visual record of my journey of exploration at a particular point in time. I am pleased if the final result suggests complexities lurking beneath the surface, tensions held in balance, melodies whispered at the edge of consciousness.
