Earth | Fire | Form
Lisa Battle
Earth and fire are primal elements that have sustained and shaped human life for millennia. This exhibition celebrates the forces of nature, and in particular the transformative power of fire, through a unique collection of curvilinear ceramic sculptures that explore sensual movement and form. Unlike traditional ceramics, most of these objects eschew functionality. The works include sculptures in the round that undulate like dancers, defying gravity, as well as sculptures suspended on the wall with organic, free-flowing curves. Through their tension between solidity and weightlessness, lines and curves, they explore the cyclical nature of existence and our relationship to the forces of the natural world.
