Sally Kauffman
Jeopardy
Kauffman lends her voice to endangered species who cannot speak for themselves as their natural habitats and migration patterns are being disrupted and protections stripped away. "Jeopardy" is a continuation of the "Catalyzed" series that celebrates the physical and mental strength that empowers the people who make their voices heard during the civil and human rights marches and rallies in Washington, DC.
Kauffman is best known for her abstract yet allusory large-scale paintings. Her gestural brushwork and sensual application of paint give form to distressed butterflies and bees, big cats, exotic animals and sea creatures. The images painted in saturated, flowing oil color on large format canvas entice the viewer to engage in their own narrative.
“My paintings exist in the space between abstraction and figuration where amorphous shapes and fluid color reflect my instinctive response to the world around me.”
