Studio Gallery
July Exhibitions
Thursday, July 18th, 5-6 pm
Free to the public
This July, Studio Gallery is proud to present Butterflies in the Outhouse, a Summer All Members Exhibit showcasing the talents of our over 50 local artists. In 1806, Kobayashi Issa, the master of the “one-breath poem” (haiku), wrote this about the damp, mosquito-infested riverside suburb of Edo:
in Katsushika
even in the outhouse...
a spring butterfly
In 2024, a member of Studio Gallery wrote this about life and art:
“As we struggle with looming climate change, with catastrophic humanitarian crises, with political animosity and instability, it is important to allow ourselves to see beauty in the world around us and love in the hearts of others.” In this show, we encourage artists to be mindful of the realities of the world today, but to look for butterflies, and rays of hope, and love.

Artist Talk with Courtney Applequist
Thursday, July, 18, 7-8 pm
Free to the public
Join us at Washington Studio School for an engaging artist talk by WSS faculty member Courtney Applequist for Third Thursday on July 18th from 7pm to 8pm as she discusses her works in her current solo show (M)other, now on view at the Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery. In this talk, Courtney will delve deep into her distinctive process of excavating and layering in her large-scale multimedia works. This exhibition explores the monumentality of ordinary relationships and the pliant nature of the self through a maternal lens, the complexity and power held within the concept of (M)other.

ADA Gallery
Summer Exhibitions Parallax Paradigms
Thursday, July, 18, 5-8 pm
Free to the public
The Washington Center of ADA Art Gallery, an extension of ADA University’s Art Program, welcomes their Summer 2024 exhibition Parallax Paradigms.
The works from the Perspective, Architectural, and Garden Pond series, were created over the past three years. This collection embraces serendipity and contradiction, blurring reality while prioritizing color over shape and form. Bahadori masterfully renders space to create immersive environments that viewers can imaginatively enter—what Mark Jenkins, art critic for The Washington Post, described as “inviting but impossible.”
Abol Bahadori is an award-winning Azerbaijani artist who lives in Northern Virginia. He was born in Tabriz, the capital city of Iranian Azerbaijan and started painting at a very early age, inspired by the colorful carpets in his hometown.
The Washington Center of ADA University is a 501 (c) 3 organization aiming to promote social, fraternal, and networking opportunities, facilitate education activities, and advance cultural ties between the United States and Azerbaijan. You can find the Washington Center of the ADA Art Gallery at 1627 21st Street, NW on Gallery Row. @WashingtonCenterADAU
The Korean Cultural Center
The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. (KCCDC) will not be open during this month's Third Thursday programming.
